Are any of you guys turning this to manual from automatic in services?
The reason I ask is that for me at least I am not using any of it and really don't need to be running all the time.
Am I missing anything?

I set it to disabled. Like you, I'm not using any of the features.

I haven't altered it in services yet, but I don't see why it should prove a problem if you do, unless the automatic updates are tied into it now - have to check this out.
It's pretty feeble - it won't detect my NOD32 (mind you, neither does ZA Pro!) so it always assumes that I have no antivirus running - I switched the security centre off in it's own interface, but haven't dug deep enough.........
just checked out it's dependencies, and there's nothing there - it seems to be a reporting tool with no other real purpose - I will dig a bit more, but I don't see a problem at present with setting it to manual.

It's been about a week now and I've had no problems with it disabled. Go ahead and set it to manual. If you have any problems, set it back. And let us know...;)

Wow Mark!
It took you a week to finally get SP2 and you're already trying to shut down related Services?
Now that's what I call a hard core Computer enthusiast! :p

Hehe....just kidding. However, since my computers have not slowed down one bit, I think I'll wait on Black Vipers assessment of SP2 before I mess with it any more than I already have.

Hmmmm...haven't checked his site for a while. Think I'll head there now.

I have been chcking his site daily for the past few days and he has not posted an update just yet. Though he has said when he gets the time he will do so.

Yes- Thanks Ernie. I see that now.
(Under the "coming soon?" section)

Current work in progress:
I am working hard on Window XP Service Pack 2 information. A few things I am doing include:

Updating all Service information to be valid with the installation of Service Pack 2.
Archiving all Service Pack 1a information for future reference.
Removing the "Internet Gateway" configuration.
Stay tuned! I will post the latest information when I finish it in the next few days.

One of the first things I noticed after installing SP2 was a few more "running Services".
My system was so "trimmed down" to begin with, I decide not to let it bother me for the moment. No difference in performance whatsoever.

Furthermore, I like my security center. :p

Yes I have this set to manual.

It was one of he first things I did after installing the OS. No side effects up-until now. I (we) will find out exactly if there are any side effects when MS releases its fist security update.

At present I am poping into updates manually daily just to check and see.
