hi,

I have Doubt regarding Account Information in WinXP...

Can i restrict the User of Limited account from accessing the CD-RW Drive?

i mean if that user puts CD-R or RW it shouldnt be detected or
the user cant C the contents of the cd somethin like that..

like nero doesnt allow the user having limited Account to BURN the CDs ...
I want to know whether there is some setting in winxp to disable the CD-ROM
for Limited account user...

thnx..Bye.

I seem to remember there being an option during the initial installation to allow or deny non-admin to burn with Nero. In any case see #18 (http://www.nero.com/us/632173734846333.html#18)

Have a look at the following.

Double left click on My Computer then right click the drive you want to select. In the list that drops down select SHARING and Security. Then select the highlighted text "If you understand..." make your choice here. This should stop every other user from accessing the drive. PROVIDING everyone ahs there own user account. If everybody uses the same account this will probably make no difference.

I take no responsibility for the result of you taking these actions

I have never even considered securing or restricting a CD drive. If this is the only Cd-Drive on the computer do you have a special reason for wanting to restrict it? (this is just me sticking my big nose in where it does not belong  )

Hey...

i tried the suggested Operation but the check box saying..

Make this Folder Private is not Enabled in ADMIN or Limited account..

and ya the reason behind me doing tht is just protect ne CDs

from Being Entered without my Permission... my younger Brother is very fond

of games and Brings some CD having viruses and also tries Burning CDs (though he doesnt know how to)

in my absence... so Just to take precautions...

ne way thanx for the reply...and if u have ne idea abt y tht Option is not enabled plz let me know...

Bye ..

For a simple hiding method you can use tweakui to hide the cd's drive letter in mycomputer. It is still accessible but this little bit of hiding might work for a younger brother.

I may be wrong with the following, but what the heck that is not unusual. As I am the only user on my machine I have not had to physically do this and have only briefly read up on it.

Make a User Account specifically for your brother. Whilst setting it up make any and all restriction you want as the admin person. Only you as admin will be able to change these settings.

Please ensure that YOUR account has a strong password to enter it, and keep this secret form him. I would also suggest that you change this password on aregular basis. KEEP A COPY OF THE PASSWORD SOMEWHERE SAFE This way your brother will only be able to access his own account, and be unable to do the things you (as Admin) have allowed hi to do.

I did a bit of searching and came up with a couple of apps which may help - I haven't checked them, so I can't give you recommendations.
