No. The best way to find out is to either to go to Compaq site and check the specification for your model or give us the exact model number and we would go to Compaq site and check it for you.

Check your motherboard manual, and there may be a chance you can but I doubt it, due to its age and what the computer market had on offer at that sort of spec

Just to clear something up, they both have a 200MHz FSB. It's a 100MHz DDR FSB, so either way of saying it is right, but they're also the same. I know it doesn't make much sense, but just trust me! ;)
There's a chance it won't work because Compaq's are so proprietary, but I tend to think it will. The 700 and 950 Duron's have the same core and pretty much the same VCore. Check Compaq/HP's website to be sure, but I think it will work.

compaq clams it can run up to 1400 Athlon, Athlon XP, Barton, or Duron. They state they all are compatible. Thanks for all yhe info. FYI Compaq's "live help" is good.

Saph, would there be an appreciable improvement in speed??
I am curious if there is a purpose for the upgrade?? Is there a price attached to it??

would there be an appreciable improvement in speed??Without any other upgrades, a 36% CPU speed upgrade would not improve overall system speed by any appreciable amount. Gaming and other CPU intensive tasks would receive a nice speed boost, but ordinary Windows tasks would seem the same.
Generally speaking, you need at least a 50% CPU speed boost to notice anything, but moving from 700 to 950MHz plus a RAM upgrade would be great! :D
