C drive is now f

The putter is fine, but c drive is now f drive. Had to reinstall xp because of some thing i did with reg edit my fault. Wipe hd with eraser then with hd mgr floppy and installed xp.the other hd was d drive it's now c and the main drive is f and g with cdr dvd as d and e. weird

This issue surprises a lot of people and can be hard enough to "control". WindowsXP's logical boot manager makes choices at installation time about how to assign volume letters. These choices are based in part about information hard-encoded onto every volume; information that is reused if those devices are on-line during the installation. The only sure way of reinstalling WinXP so that it is given the C drive letter is to have it as the only visible (or installed) partition AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION.
