A buddy of mine are having a discussion and we both have different opions on DDR Ram.
If you have 1 512mb DDR Ram chip installed in a PC, are you utilizing the DDR or do you need 2 chips to run it in DDR mode?
BTW,
The motherboard is DDR capable.

I think one or both of you are confusing DDR with Dual Channel DDR.
I don't have enough knowledge to explain this in great detail, but I do know this: you are getting the benefits of DDR technology with just one stick of DDR RAM, but you need two sticks with equal specifications to get the benefit of Dual Channel technology. It should be noted that Dual Channel is not a technology inherent in the memory, it's a technology inherent in the motherboard chipset.
It is also my understanding that AMD systems don't benefit very much from Dual Channel technology because of the narrower bandwidth on the frontside bus.

Yes.
DDR DIMMs don't need to be installed in pairs for DDR to work.
