forgive my total ineptitude, as Im altogether new when it comes to working with computers on this level. I have come into some problems in trying to get Neverwinter nights running consequently have resorted to attempting to upgrade my drivers.

While I think that both my video and sound drivers have been upgraded (difficult for me to tell), I really dont know what to do with generic windows xp drivers which seem to have no discernable method of identification.

Ive tried going to microsoft's website but either it is not very useful or I do not know how to navigate the site effectively.

Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated, as I really am unsure as to what to do, or how to do it.

any additional advice beyond drivers for this problem would be useful too, the problem seems specific to nwns visuals since other games work perfectly fine, even the infamous (although strongly recommended) Temple of Elemental Evil.

Would help a great deal with more specifics. :)
Stuff like performance, errors, hardware details, etc.
All the information you could provide could have helped.

That said, here are a couple links to start with...

1. General maintenance information for your type of game (http://www.atarisupport.com/general_troubleshooting.php?browser=1&osType=WINXP&pageDisplay=MAINTAIN&productName=Neverwinter+Nights&productNum=39)

2. Support for Neverwinter Nights (http://www.atarisupport.com/newfaq/neverwinternights.php?browser=1&osType=WINXP&pageDisplay=MAIN)

Thank you for your help John, sorry about not being specific but I am as to what I should specify. In game terms the problem becomes apparent in the prelude area of nwns when mages cast spells - certain visual animations - causing the game to crash.

While some instances are variable it seems to always be the case in the stable section where the two mages cast bless and other spells. Across all instances it seems to be especially tied to golden light animations.

Other games run fine, TOEE with all it's animations and detail runs reasonably well, even in places where others with better systems have had troubles.

Another oddity is how the nwns demo which provides the full prelude area ran perfectly, since having these problems I downloaded the demo again with no crashing issues yet again.

Thanks for the support sites, Ive already used the method to close down applications and did manage to obtain video and sound card drivers.
