problem with Internet Explorer

When opening IE6 it will not go to the page i type instead it stays on the home page, if I close it and open it again and quickly type the url of the page I want it may then go to it. When I close IE6 it says the the memory 0x022d40dd at 0x022d40dd could not be accessed and asks me to close the program.

Any ideas, this was present before I installed windows xp SP2 and I thought when I installed SP2 it would go away.
