Problem regarding sudden halting of the system

hey guys..i had 256 mb ddr ram and i upgraded recently to 512 by addin another 256mb ddr.. there is intermediate halting of the system at times some times when i run movies on cds.. and sometimes.. runnin some application.. wot could be the possible problem..could it be because of the RAM which i added.. actually my RAM is 256mb hynex 266mhz i upgraded usin the same another stick with the similar config...

ummm am a bit confused..!! could u help me out..

Which operating system are you using?

Try removing the old ram module to see the new module is the problem.

the halting problem stopped.. but now am gettin an error which reads..

"The instruction 0X01183397 referenced memory at 0x00000000 The memory could not be written".. wot could be the possible problem...could it be because of the OS and certain files gettin corrupt.. wud the problem be solved ifi reinstall i.e format and install windows again from scratch..:d ummmm...
