HERE'S (http://www.computerhope.com/help/cmos.htm) a link on various ways to get into the BIOS.

Check for a little plastic strip where the battery goes...also check for a clear CMOS jumper and make sure it is in the "Run" position not "Clear"...

thank you for your help.
the mb is not connected to any other device i.e no floppy , no hard disc no cd rom. i was checking it to see if it was ok using only the cpu and ram. can a bad ram provide this error? i tried clearing the cmos and leaving the systme without the battery for a while. also tried a new battery to no success. thanks for any other advice

Try adding a video card to the mix....let us know.

the system was tested using a savage 4 32 mb video card , athlon 750 mhz cpu and 128 mb sdram. i cleared the cmos using tne jumper , put a new battery and alway the message appear. no hd , sound card modem or other hardware is present in the system. what trobles me is that the system read that there is no slave or master register the memory and the cpu but that is all , i still cant get into the bios. any further sugestion will be appreciated

thanks for all the advice. i added a video card and a floppy to check if this wuold help. took off the battery , touched the terminal with a paper clip , put the bettry on , used the cmos jumper. but nothing happens . the board recognize the memory, the cpu and the floppy but does not allow to get into the bios , nor does it boot.
my manual for this board says to put the jumper , but does not says to turn the computer on while in clear position , in some mb you have to turn them on in order for the defaults to take effect. is there a possibility for me to further cause damage to the board if i turn it on while jumper in clear position?
is a good option to buy a bios chip , or is it better to buy a new board?
thank you for your help

Hey,

Nothing should happen when you try to boot with the jumper in the Clear position. ie. it won't boot.

If the motherboard manual doesn't say anything about having to boot the computer while the jumper is in the Clear position, then chances are it's not required.

Seems that all you have done should have cleared the CMOS.

I don't know about the BIOS chip vs. a new motherboard. I would go with whichever one is cheaper. However, if it costs almost as much for the chip as it does for a new board, I would just buy the board and be done with it. Besides, there is no guarantee that a new BIOS chip will fix the problem. There may be something else wrong with the board.

Have you tried pushing down on the BIOS chip, to make sure it's in all the way?

Good luck.

is it possible for the board to check the cpu , the ram available , and the hard drives for master and slave and still be bad?. does this check sum error means that my mb is useles? if that is the case well i think i will have to buy a new one
