I tried to remove the gaobot virus from my dad's PC and realised that the CTRL+ALT+DEL is not working, meaning no response after i pressed the keys simultaneously.
Anyone with any slightest idea of what's going on and how to restore the function as I want to check the programmes that is running at the background. Thanks in advance!

Remove the virus first then see if the Control-Alt-Delete function works.

Try it in Safe Mode maybe just to see if the task manager has been corrupted.
Perhaps you have deleted something critical while cleaning things up - Which Operating System??

If you're running XP, switch off system restore and run the virus removal tool again (if you didn't disable it first time round) before you try to remove the problem - it will keep coming back otherwise. As pointed out above, safe mode is the best place to be when doing this sort of thing.

Rite, noted on turning off the system restore to eliminate the gaobot. The OS is Windows XP (without any windows update).
I guess the virus is a goner, after i ran the gaobot removal tool downloaded from Symantec website. Can the virus be the reason behind the CTRL+ALT+DEL malfunction?
Btw i wont be having chance to touch on the problematic PC for the next few days as i'll be out of town. Nonetheless thanx for all the response, will try the suggested safe mode method when i get back and we'll see how things go ;) Cheers!
