Many of you may have seen me mention the new systm interface called Serial ATA which is supposed to eventually replace the limited(?) Parallel IDE ATA ( ATAPI ) interface modern systems use.
Go here,Serial vectors (http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/topics/vectors_2000-sata.htm) for a better understanding of the concept, and also here, { Serial ATA.org (http://www.serialata.com/) } for complete info and a possible timetable rollout.
Imagine, a sustained data transfer rate of 600MB's ( that 's Megabytes per sec folks )!! AND only a small 4 wire/pin cable that has a maximum capable length of 36 inches ( compared to the 18" that is optimal for current parallel ATA )! AND less power consumption!
Boy i can just hear the screaming in Quake with the data transfer rates i could get on such a system!! http://community.theunderdogs.org/smiley/misc/disturbed.gif
