Hi,

This is my system which I assembled myself a couple days ago; all parts brand new:

Athlon 1900 XP
Gigabyte GA-7VTXH mobo
LiteOn DVD
LiteOn 24x CD writer
256MB DDR RAM
Leadtek GeForce3 Ti 200
Seagate 40GB HDD
AOpen case (AMD certified)

And just the usual keyboard, mouse, etc.

System is set with 133Mhz bus.

Here is the problem:

When the computer has been turned off for a while and it is switched on, all the fans, LED lights, disk drives fire up, but there is no display on the monitor and then it just goes into standby mode.

The way around this is to switch off the power supply in the back of the computer, and then switch it on again.

Once I do this and then turn the computer on everything boots fine and there are no problems at all - system works like a charm.

This is really strange, and if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I'm just a casual user and nothing is overclocked.

Is it anything to with the CMOS, jumper settings? Would lowering the bus speed help?

Thanks for your help!!!

Sounds like a power supply problem to me. How are you plugged in? Directly into a wall socket or a power bar? If a power bar, plug into a wall socket directly and then try it.

Hang tight for more opinions. I know we have seen similar problems as yours but the old noggin isn't working too well today, (late night) and I can't remember any solutions, except for the above to try.

Cheers,

Yup, tried plugging it directly into the wall socket but that didn't help either. Same pattern though: took it out of the power bar and plugged it into the wall, booted up first time. Turned it off, and tried again, but once again nothing on the monitor.

Plugged it back into the power board and turned it on, it was fine first time. Turned it off and back on again, same problem!!

Im not familiar with the motherboard, maybe there is a option in the bios that might help. Hit del on startup and look around and see if there is any options in there that could be causing this. Look in the motherboard manual also. Also check the pins(on the motherboard) for the front of the case , see if any are bent or the connectors are loose or something. See if there is anything suspious, like loose connections. Of course it could be the powersupply but i doubt it if you got a voltmeter you can test it out. Look around for posts , about testing the powersupply voltages. Should be around 11 to 14 volts on dcv.
