hey guys i am kinda new to comps. so bare with me.

i am trying to listen to the radio of the net but i get no sound out of my speakers. i know for a fact the speakers work because i used them on my home comp. and they work fine.

i am using a A7M266-D motherboard and it says it comes with a onboard C-Media 8738 audio controller that lets you enjoy high-quality 6-channel audio without having to buy advanced sound cards. on the the asus website.

so does that mean i have a soundcard or i don't have one.

in my control panel under sounds and media i can't preview any window sounds because the play button is greyed out and also the volume tasker as well.

i am using windows 2000 sp4. is my problem a sound card? how do i check if have one installed?

is there a driver that i can download?

There should be a disk that came with that board and it should have the audio drivers on it.

If for some reason you don't have it, here (http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7M266-D&Type=All&SLanguage=en-us) is a page with the audio drivers for that board.

so does that mean i have a soundcard or i don't have oneJust a follow-up to your question...

Onboard sound means that the sound card is built-in to the motherboard and only requires drivers to be installed as Fruss so admirably directed you to do.

It is possible to disable onboard sound (in the BIOS setup) and use a PCI sound card. Some audiophiles have a sound card preference and this BIOS feature allows users a choice.
