I recently got help from this forum to solve a problem I had with windows booting and locking up after my recent c-mos battery change. You helped me reset the bios and all went well, but since then I've continued to get the checksum c-mos/battery failure error on some of my boot ups. I can reset the slave drive to "auto" in the bios as well as change my printer IRQ from 7 to 5 and then go ahead and start windows each time without problem, but I'd like to know why I keep getting the error and why I have to keep resetting the bios.

I do not believe it is the battery because the one I replaced had only been in my computer a year and the one that is in there now is new. What else could it be? Is it related to the fact that I'm using IRQ 5 for the printer instead of 7? I can start windows using 7 but then the sound card then conflicts and won't work. Thanks for any input again. You guys are life savers.

Check the battery, make sure that it is properly inserted and that there are not any signs of dirt or corrosion...also make sure that the jumper is in the run position and firmly seated and not loose on the pins.

Thanks mjc for giving me ideas on this difficulty. I checked the battery and connections and looked for any jumpers that weren't plugged in properly. All looks fine but yet still on some boot ups I get the checksum error-battery failure. Are there any more ideas on what may be the problem. Thanks for any and all help.
