I was lucky, too. A couple of days ago I filled up my gas tank and the gas was $1.75 a gallon. The next day I drove by the gas station and it was up to $1.95! I saved 20 cents a gallon! I should have bought a lottery ticket, too.

I used to have The Final Rip Off on cassette when I was in high school. My sister was really embarrassed when I dropped her off at the junior high school in the morning and when she opened the door to get out "Sit On My Face" was blaring from my car stereo. And there were all her friends, standing outside watching and listening.

Ahhh, memories... :D

I went to the gas station the other day to fill my truck up with some mid-grade gas. Turns out the gas station was out of regular and mid-grade. Oh lucky day, they were selling premium at the price of regular. :)

What? Carb? As in carbohydrates? Those aren't returnable. Or did you mean car? Why would I have to return it? I have no idea what your talking about.

Hey, this is great--to have all this lucky stuff happening. . .so I'm painting this lady's house--inside job, thank you, and we got to talking and I tiold her about this album I got for $1, and as it turns out her husband is a Monty Python addict. So, she says, bring the album, she'll put it on a CD-ROM for me :) :) :)

Carb as in Carburetter and the word is RETUNED ( Normally happens when you change from one grade of fuel to another to prevent lots of hiccups) not RETURNED :D

Oh, yea....retuned....Ummm, no carb is fine. Truck is running fine. Except I think I gotta replace the bearings on my front wheels. Tires are squeeking and I already replaced the breaks.

Replace those bearings now, shot bearings are dangerous, especially when cornering. Believe me ;) Or maybe they just need lubricating :D

Na, I'll let em go. Hopefully my bearings will go out so I can collect insurance money. ;) J/K. Didn't even think of lubing em. I'll try that since it'll be easier. Thanks.

For some reason or other my first response didn't post. So if this is twice, sorry in advance...

but, ah, hold off on the bearings and check the shocks. Shocks springs, joints and tie-rods squeak and crank, bearings make a rough abrasive sound at first, like stone mill grinding stones, then it becomes a metallic warbling that some people mistake for a bad muffler, then it grumbles like a REALLY bad muffler. After that it gets quiet.

But, no problem, fun's just starting!! ;) Because by that time you can smell it, because the bearing has totaling collapsed and fused with the wheel, and the (inner) axel rod is red hot and torqueing and tearing, and then, well, then it won't matter what you smell becuase the sound of the fire engines will drown out your screaming and crying..."MY CAR!!! MY CAR'S ON FIRE!!!" Which is really a waste of time because by then EVERYONE within a two block radius will have seen the smoke trail but you--until the car stops--but, see, all that that yelling is gonna be a big waste of time because your car, at that point, isn't really on fire...it's just the tire, actually :D . After that gets a good roast going--THEN-- the rest of the car goes.

I've been in one and seen one I wasn't in, quite spectacular..... :p

Now, is this noise prominent when you make a turn and there is full weight on that front wheel? It should be like a dull clunk. That's a bad bearing, starts out as a barely audible click that one mistakes for something in the steering wheel or a stone in the road...nope, it's the bearing every so slightly slipping on it's mount becuise the casing is ever so slightly warped (a flat spot) on the inside casing.

I don't know about lubing them, repacking with grease, lithium bearing grease, is so much hassle that you might as well rent a bearing puller and pull them BOTH, inner and outer, off and replace them. Make sure to note if they are prepacked with grease. If not, I wouldn't buy them. Depends on the car though.

Edit: Now, there is a noise made by disc brakes--it's sounds like a knife on a ginding wheel....zeeep...zeeeeeeeep...zeep...zeep...zeeeee p...zeeeeeeeeep
..zeep...zeep....like that. That's a little tab of (soft) tin they put on the disc brake pads to let you know the pads are worn down to the point where you need to take them in for placement, and turn the rotars. It almost sounds like you are driving by a place whhere someone is operating an electric saw, and they are just barely touching it to the wood.

Or, you can always do what I NEVER do--do it the easy way and drop it off at the shop and let the pros do it. :D

Well said Donn! ;) and don`t forget a /or slipping belts sounds like a par banshees :D

Right, belts, shrieking like banshees for sure. The only thing more annoying than that (and that little tin tab on the brakes) is that throw-out bearing on the old VW Beetles that sits between the engine and the transmisson. Once it goes it just warbles like a parakeet on caffeine.

I currently (b'leeve it er not) I drive a 1988 Olds Cutlass, and I wouldn't trade it for anything...well, maybe a Dodge RamVan, but anyway, 'The Batmobile' gets 24 mpg on the highway when the cruise control decides to work, fast as a rabbit in heat, and, AND!....the paint job on the roof and the hood (engine cover here in the colonies) was so worn I rolled on some Rustoleum Jet Black paint for metal gates and doors...gives it that 'fast-moving-hand-rail' appearance that your state of the art auto-body paints just can't seem to duplicate, yet..... :p
