Hi

Just a few days ago I found that when I boot up my computer, my monitor would give me this error saying no signal. Though at first a second reboot will get it back to normal with the monitor showing everything. But yesterday I found it doesnt just happen during boot ups, it even happens in windows. Or just when I turn off my monitor for a while. I was downloading this CS source for HL2 yesterday then suddenly everything froze, I switched off the monitor and switched back on...no signal recived. When this happens my computer would still be running, though if I try to shut down the comp using the hotkey on my keyboard, nothing happens  .

I have done a virus scan with Norton AV2004 Pro, ran Spybot 1.3 (updated) and ad-adware (updated) but everything seem to be ok. At first I thought it may be my LCD acting up (even though it never had before) so I switched to a CRT, same thing, except the monitor just wouldnt open :( .

So my comp spec are Radeon 9000Pro with 4.7 drivers and running at 4X. Refresh rate at 75hertz (yeah my monitor can support that). Motherboard is a P4P800-VM with the latest bios. 1GB of DDR400 with virtual memo from Inital size 1536mb to Maximum size 3072mb....hmm...I havent check that until now...Maximum size seem to be quite big...is it ok like that? And also with WinXP Pro and a 300W PSU.

I've never had this problem before, the comp is less than a year old though the video card is almost 2 years old.

Hope some one can help ^^ thanks

First step is to try that monitor on a different computer, and a different monitor on the problem machine. That will eliminate the monitor or prove it's going bad. If it does the same on two monitors, reseat the video card and try again. Also try reseating the data cable a few times in case it's getting a bad connection.

Yes, and your problem can also be caused by a bad video card.
If Pete's good suggestions do not get things up and running, then see if installing a different known working video card helps.

Yeah I have tried putting my comp on 2 different monitors and yep it does the same thing...so I guess its my video card :( . Does this mean I would need a new card? I'm sure the chip isnt over heating, I do clean the dust off the heatsink (on the video card), the fan is working. Btw how long does video normally last...cause this one is almost 2 years old, no overclocking has been done on this card.

Thanks

Did you reseat the video card as suggested by Pete?

If that does not fix things, then see if you can borrow one just to check if yours is bad.

There's really no set time for a video card to fail. They can fail right out of the box, or last for years.

Hmm, so they can last for years huh...well yeah I have reseat the card though now it seems to do it least often...could it be the AGP slot? If it is...OMG >_<

Thanks

Yep, I've been using the same video card for the past 3 years without a hitch.

Clean off the contacts on the video card and the AGP slot with 91%(or higher) alcohol.
Then, make sure the video card is fully seated. Sometimes it needs a healthy push to fully seat.

If those do not help, then make sure that the card does not slightly raise out of its slot when its hold down screw is fully tightened.
If it does, then see if it works better without installing the screw.

If that does not help, then see if another card works better.

I'm having the same problem, I've built a PC from scratch and I see nothing only the monitor.. Monitor definately works and PC boots up. :(
