WinXP won't start with USB 2.0 card

Hey, Does any one know what can be causing WinXP to freeze at boot up when I plug in Adaptec's USB 2.0 PCI adapter into my ASUS A7V266-E, rev. 1005? When the card is out, it boots fine, but hangs every time when it's in. I tried the card on a different machine, and had no problem with it, so I know the USB card is definitely alright.
