Well, maybe some of you guys already knew about this- Looks like it's been out a while.
Anyway, a new version of AVG Free edition will be out soon. (looks like around Dec 1st)
Important notice: This Beta version of AVG Free Edition will expire 11/30/2004. By this time, the final version of this product will be available for your free download.

I downloaded and installed it on one machine to check it out. As usual, (IMHO of course), they just had to take a good thing and make it worse.
I really don't like the new interface, and a few other features have been added or changed from the free v6.0.

If you want to try it for yourself, link below.
Keep in mind that it took me an entire day to receive the download link after registering, and another entire day after downloading the program to get the License Number in order to activate it.

After "Playing" for a couple of days, I went back to version 6. Too bad the new version will be our only choice as far as AVG Free not too far in the future.
At that time, I'll probably go back to Avast or (holds Heart momentarily), go with a highly rated pay version....and that does NOT mean Norton or Mcafee or some of the other BLOATED choices.
That's why I like AVG. Uses very little system resources and works pretty well. (Although I'm a little concerned about the crap it didn't find for Steve in the recent "Newegg thread").
Even Avast, which I like very much and am still using on one machine, I believe is still a bit of a resource hog compared to AVG.
Anyway, for what it's worth:

Note that there is a .pdf user guide in my link if you want to take a look. Some of the new interface looks pretty cool at first, but the "cool looking windows" end up on top of the not so cool looking windows to form a bit of a messy work of art.

Yeah, but wait till MS starts selling AV and anti-spyware (Bill says that is a product direction they are explor-er-ing).

That sneaky little bugger!

Usually, Uncle Bill tells me about these little "brainstorms" going on behind the scenes, but sometimes he just likes to surprise me. (And boy does he!) :D

I'll bet "MAV" will run seamlessly with SP2! :p

It should with a MS-only API.
