Hi All,

I am looking for a program similar to Gator in that it fills in online forms for you. I have heard that gator was or is spyware. I'm not sure about the spyware thing but I do know that Gator is constantly sending information out. If I don't configure my firewall to ignore Gator it will prompt me over and over letting me know that Gator is
trying to access a port. Gator has worked fine but I would like to try another program that is not spyware.

Thanks for your suggestions
Stealer

chances are your credit card numbers and everything else that you have transmitted via gator now are in the hands of whomever runs their servers.. (or hacks into them)

I would get rid of it IMMEDIATELY

then research another program. Not keep using the spyware until you do......... try auto-complete...

Hi,

I have not been using Gator for any credit card numbers, just passwords. I am looking for another program that will do the same thing without the spyware stuff.
Thanks
Stealer

Hey stealer i look for a program like gator but could not find one as good as gator. I found alot of ones that would remember passwords , but would not popup and paste like gator. It seems convenince has a price. I would just write it on a piece of paper. Like sea said theyll hack into those sites and find your credit card numbers and thatts not worth it.

stealer....

This is not meant as a hit toward you.

I wouldn't load Gator and those other similar programs on my mother-in-law's computor. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Even the one's that are not spyware types are still resourse hog's.

Luck.

4) Gator-Alternatives Form-Filler...

In "Gator Fan Has Misgivings" ( http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2001/2001-07-30.htm#8 ) we discussed why some users--- myself included--- avoid adware/phone-home apps like Gator, even though it's a fine form-filler.

Many readers immediately wrote to suggest the same alternative--- obviously very popular. Scott Beauchamp was the first:

With regards to your and many others, including myself, concerns over Gator's use and storage of private info here is a great password/identity form filling program manager with great integration with IE. It is called AI Roboform and is free for personal use, it is located at http://www.siber.com/roboform , it indicates complete privacy and respect to personal info, ie not spyware/adware like Gator. Also, a interesting free security/privacy surfing web site is http://www.safeweb.com . Thanks for a great newsletter!

Unfortunately, this is SafeWeb:

We have decided to suspend the free privacy service and are currently evaluating the viability of a paid subscription service. Please check back for more information.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the info. I wish I did not need a program like gator because I do know that these programs do take up system recources, but I visit so many web sites that all seem to have user names and passwords to be filled in. So I must continue using a gator like program. Anyway I think that I am going to try Roboform and see how I like it.

Thanks again for the help,
Stealer

I really have to go with Diurnal on this one.
If you can't use the same User name and Password on all of them(so you can easily remember), then you should right them down in a small notepad and hide it in a cabinet. Plain, simle, effective security.
I still remember Pete telling someone to remove the power cord and lock it in a cabinet, when they were looking for a security program to prevent their inlaws from using their computer while they were gone. Plain, simple, effective security http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

This may be an extra hassel, but concider the consiquences of haveing your personal info Automaticly sent out.
Good luck
