J2RE 1.5.0 (also known as Java 5) has been released late last week.

How is it working with firefox and what was added? :)

I loaded it on the 98SE machine and so far it is working great.
Here is a link describing the changes, mainly quicker startup and lower footprint, & better security. Look at the Virtual Machine section notes in particular.

After the update did you go into add/ remove to get rid of the old version?

Not yet. Now you made me do it.

Edit:
I looked, the older installation is removed in Add/Remove Programs when you load the new version. This is not a problem for me as I have this HDD imaged, so I can go back to the older version if necessary. It is also a good thing from a security standpoint as the old version is not sitting there waiting to be exploited.

I have been going through Release Notes, there is a problem where Automatic Time can be disabled in Windows if time zone selected does not support daylight savings time (ie Tokyo time/Phoenix Arizona/State of Indiana) they have a workaround for that.

They always recommend updating and for the most part the first few times with something new it's a disaster. I think that for once I am goingo wait till I upgrade firefox and that I am only going to do when the gold comes out [except of course for security issues] :)
