im having trouble cold booting my comp. i turn it on and the fan and light on the front work but no display and no hard drive activity and no beeps.
i have to turn it on and off a couple of times for it to work, then i get garbage on the post screen.
so today i decided to troubleshoot it. i removed everything except the video card mouse and keyboard.
when i tried to cold boot it wouldnt boot. so i removed the video card and just left the mouse and keyboard.
when i cokld booted again i finally got a error beep and the comp continued to boot
then i reinstalled all the peripherals again without the video card and a i could get a cold boot.
so im assuming its the card. but my question is this. when i finally get the comp to work with the video card in, the card doesnt seem to have any problems. my graphics are fine. no conflicts in the system manager.
could my agp slot be bad? or is it the card?

Hmm...could be that it wasn't properly seated or it could have gotten tarnished/corroded and unplugging/plugging it cleaned the contacts.......

If you can eventually get it working with the same video card, I somewhat suspect that the power supply may be marginal and may be having trouble providing the initial current surge when the system is turned on. What CPU (brand and MHz) are you running and what is the power supply wattage?

Which MotherBoard are you using? Is this a recent build/upgrade?

Off-hand I can think of a couple Mboards that have a cold boot issue.

A PSU upgrade seems to help.

You haven't added or replaced any RAM lately?
