Hi,

There is one particular PC in the office (it's a Win XP Pro) that is acting strange. It is connected to the office Domain, just like all the other 20 PCs in the office, but under My Network Places, it can only see 4 other computers on the same Domain.
I have checked and compared the network settings (eg DNS, WINS, etc) of this PC against other PCs in the network but found nothing amiss.
This particular PC is also NOT visible on the "My Network Places" of all the other PCs.

I have unjoined and re-joined the Domain (its a Domain, btw, not a Workgroup) but still I can't solve the problem?

Is there anything that I did wrong or did not do?
Please advise..

it can ping by IP but not by name.
Ip ping only works for the 4 visible computers.

Any idea why?

Can all of your healthy PC's ping my IP and name, if they cant by name then there is WINS / DNS issue depending on which you are using.

DO NOT dispay your IP ifo here but if running static IP's you could take the IP address ans Subnet mask from a good machine, power it down and apply it to the bad machine to prove you are not getting wrong IPs to subnet masks.

IS the bad machine pointing to the same DNS / WINS servers as the rest.

because ip ping only works to the four it can see it does seem like a different subnet but.......then it wouldnt of joined the domain :(

Can it ping the servers by ip and name, either way can a good machine do it by ip and name.

I suspected it had something to do with a broken netbios.
However, I have reinstalled XP over the current running OS and it seemed to have repaired it.

Thank you for all your replies. I appreciated every single one of them.
You all have been very helpful.
