I was installing some new memory in my older system (Pentium II 400mhz; win98 and Mandrake 10.0), and when I had finished I went into bios setup to verify that the memory was recognized properly. It was, and I rebooted the PC. BUT, nothing appeared on the screen. There were no error beeps, and the monitor was perfectly fine before, no purplish tint or any other oddness.
Can CRT's just suddenly die? It somehow seems odd... What should I do?

Try reversing what took place before it died, remove the added memory chip. Also check that you did not loosen anything while in there.

I removed the new memory (128mb K-Byte 100mhz, btw) and replaced the old 32mb HP, and it booted perfectly! These seem totally unrelated. I hadn't loosened anything, everything else was in order. Why? It seems odd to me...but I'm not an expert on this kind of thing... Thanks!

What Prt was telling you was that if you had no problems with the old memory, the new memory must be the problem. This is apparently true since when you put the old memory back in, it worked!
Certain motherboards are very particular about the ram installed. I would at approach your problem as a ram type or a specific manufacturer ram type of problem.
