About time. Maybe now we can get back to just using a computer to do things and not spend most of the time getting rid of or being afraid what's being downloaded to our computers. I am also curious to see how long this will take to pass the Senate and implement.

'Get users permission' is the phrase to watch here - EU antispam legislation had this in place, but the legislation is virtually useless, as it is deemed that if a user has spam before the legislation came into effect, they had effectively agreed to it being there (that's the short version), so the wording will have to be 'the software writer/providor must obtain explicit permission from the user - the option to grant or deny permission must be clear and not attached to or within any document containing other information.' - or something to that effect; otherwise it will be useless.

Didn't know that, Budfred. Can you point me to something more information on that?

I heard it on National Public Radio in the tech segment they do in the morning news... It might be available on their website...
