Hi all

I got an Eurocom laptop with a 17' widescreen screen and mobility radeon 9700.

The big problem is: the video card is not recognizing the monitor as a wide screen monitor. I checked the video card sofware help and it says:

If you are using a wide-aspect flat panel, you can choose to expand the image to the full size of your panel, or maintain the aspect ratio of the original image, by selecting the appropriate option.

Desktop Help for Window XP, © ATI Technologies Inc., Version H6.01

My understanding is that there should be some option that would stretch the image to fit the screen BUT keeping the aspect ratio (consequently putting some black areas in the sides). However, the only options I can see is to have the video card to strech the image to the whole screen (what results in distortion) or no stretch (which results in a more or less small image)

Am I misunderstanding the information in the help file or there is something wrong and my monitor is not being recognized as a widescreen monitor.

Some additional information: I have downloaded the latest drivers for the video card and windows XP. Also, if I go to the device manager instead of seeing only my laptop monitor I see 5 "generic monitor" inthe monitor item. Even if I delete the 5 monitors, they all come back when I restart. I checked in Eurocom website and no information about some kind of "monitor" driver that would help.

thanks for any help

Did you try using a widescreen resolution with an AR of 1.6, like 1440x900?

Forgot to mention:

In windows it works OK. The problem are games that have their own resolution (specifically Diablo 2 and Doom 3).

Unless the games support native wide screen, then you may have to live with either a stretched or a small view.

However, here's a site that has a possible solution for Doom 3(You may want to try 1440x900):
