Hey everyone,

Ill do my best to provide all the information I can.

I am having problems connecting two computers (wire connection) together in a network. Both have windows XP, with service pack 2. Both computers are plugged in a hub.

I enable the connection, and it connects... however it comes up with a problem saying: Local Area Connection. This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message. (this is happening on BOTH computers by the way)

I click on the message, and a screen pops up that says "you might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer." I click on repair, but it just fails at renewing the IP address.

Firewalls are disabled. Both computers are set to obtain an IP address automatically.

I have had them connected before, on regular windows XP (no service pack) But ever since I installed it, it added some new security features... and I cannot network my computers anymore.

Any help would be great.

Try turning off Windows Firewall on each so they can see each other. Do you use a third party software firewall?

How do you connect to the internet?
If you don't have a router (DHCP server) you will have to setup ICS.

I wonder what protocol you were using to network the machines, did you use NetBEUI?

You don't mention a router, so i assume*cough* that you either used automatic addressing 169.254.x.x or that some piece of hardware is doings DHCP?

Are the machines XP Home or Pro?
