I was just wondering if it really matters what type of ram I would be buying. Whether it's 1 stick of 512 Kingston 2100 or 3 sticks of no name 256MB PC-2100 DDR266 ECC Reg.

The 'no name' stuff can be a bit sometimes be a bit dodgy, but if you buy from a reputable dealer, it shouldn't be a problem.
The one thing to bear in mind is upgradability - if you fill all your DIMM slots with small memory cards, then you've got to ditch the lot if you need to later upgrade.
Check out crucial.com - their memory is good quality and reasonably priced - I've never had any problems with them.

I wouldn't mind using generic no-name stuff in a secondary PC, but if you're buying ECC registered RAM, then you've likely got a mission-critical system there! If so, it's not wise to buy no-name RAM. It will just break your heart in the end.
