Suddenly my CD-rom won't read any CD's. It is recognized in the BIOS as well as in Win 98 but won't initiate nor can I manually open. I swapped drives bu the new one did the same thing. I can right click on it in My Computer and get it to eject. System Properties indicates all is fine with no conflicts. Any ideas? Is it something in the registry?

wurten,

Well...you might want to try SAFE MODE and then head into DEVICE MANAGER. REMOVE all instances of the CD-ROM, reboot and let Windows reinstall the drivers. Would you post back with your results?

Oops, thought process is that the CD-ROM driver might have become corrupt. Then, in swapping the drive you might have created a "ghost" driver that is further confusing the computer.
