I have been using Apple's itunes on my Win XP computer for some time now and love it. I was just informed that an update is available and when I downloaded it and ran it, it came up with an error: "error connecting to service manager" "unable to connect to GEARAspiWDM service". I called Apple's tech support and they said it was a Windows problem. HELP as it creamed my old version of itunes and I can't play those songs.

I realize this is a few days old now. I did a little searching realizing that no one had responded to your post.

First, welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Here's an interesting thread where many appear to be struggling with the same symptoms. Check down toward the bottom for what appear to be some solutions:

Thank you so much for the help. Apple wanted to charge me $50 for the solution, or sell me an ipod for $250! which probably wouldn't have worked anyway. I'm new to this discussion forum and am not real sure how to navigate it, so thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. It seems that SP2 was the culprit. I have Zone Alarm pro so is SP2 even necessary?

Yes, SP2 is necessary. The service pack contains not only security upgrades, but also fixes bugs that have surfaced since XP's initial release.

Also, it will be necessary to be able to download future system/security updates...

I only perused the link I sent your way, but it seemed as though there was a workaround to get things working again in conjunction with SP2...

14 grandchildren...congratulations! :) Hopefully not scattered all over the planet so you can get to see them often! ;)
