View Full Version : Memory Sticks Created Equal????
A few years back, I bought an HP100 Photosmart and a Sony Memory Stick reader/writer MSAC-US1. Everything was working fine until I got a new camera and bought a scandisk "Memory Stick Pro". The memory stick fits perfectly inside the HP100 and the Sony MSAC-US1, however, neither of those peripherals recognize this new memory stick....I thought a memory stick was a memory stick? Would updated drivers solve this problem?

Is that a "SanDisk" "Memory Stick Pro?"
A Google search shows some issues with certain of the sticks. Down a ways on this link there's an citing of two different SanDisk cards manufactured in China and Japan...does this apply to your situation?

Technically speaking, a "memory stick" is not just any old Memory Stick. Sony's proprietary camera media has undergone a few changes. First came Memory Stick, then Memory Stick Pro, then Memory Stick Pro Duo. If your card readers are older than the Memory Stick Pro spec, that would explain your problems.
I appreciate the comments, I decided to stick (no pun intended) to the Sony version.....
