I am having Windows ME start up problems. Error message: An exception OE has accurred at 0028:00610cd in VxD VNETBIOS (01)" - I cannot boot up normally but can boot up in safe mode.

After doing some troubleshooting under msconfig, I believe the problem is in the Static VxD's area. When I disable the "VNETBIOS.VXD" file listed, the PC will boot up normally. How can I fix the problem? Please advise. I read through some help files on microsoft.com and they indicated it might be my network adapter driver. Help!!!! I have had a lot of freeze up's lately where I had to reboot the system.

Any suggestions and instructions would be much appreciated!!! I'm pulling my hair out!!

Hello Teilah,

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Was there anything (e.g. software, hardware, etc.) that you might have added or changed prior to the current error message?

When in SAFEMODE, if you go into DEVICE MANAGER do you see anything awry?

Have you disabled System Restore? If not, you might be able to restore to a time before you began experiencing the problem.

Can't say if this'll work but when I had a problem with that static VXD in Win98, I deleted it in the Registry and it solved my problem(which was an inability to restart).

But don't do this until you back up the Registry or set a restore point first.
