For the first time in ages, I tried to use system restore. Everything proceeded normally until, after the re-boot, it informed me that wouldn't restore. Tried a different restore point, still won't work.. It worked prior to SP2, any connection?Any idea what I've done this time?

I do not believe the old pre-SP2 System Restore points are saved when SP2 is installed. I think of SP2 as a new OS, not a program/driver installation. You should be able to make a new restore point after SP2, just turn off system restore and turn it back on again.

Thank you, I tried that just now, same thing happens. Someone suggested that there was an update for system restore, but I can't find any.

If you turned restore off, rebooted, turned it on again, the only restore point will be the boot you are on presently. In effect all the previous ones get erased.
Maybe a repair install would be a suggestion at this point?
Why do you need the restore? Maybe whatever is ailing can be fixed.

Thanks,
I am so mad, I downloaded this fix from Hp before sp2 even came out. turns out they updated later in the month so I had to redo the whole magilla.
Between the unistall- reinstall getting the new update, fooling around with my settings, it took over 2 hours.
Arghhh!!!!
Thanks again for the heads up.
I really think system restore is one of the best parts of Xp.
Mark :)

Mark I feel your pain.Thankfully I got the restore patch before I installed SP2, but I went to look and they have three updates that have to installed before SP2 and they are dated 10-2004. Fortunately it is not anything I really need. Multimedia KB update, PC-Doctor and HP-toolkit updates. I am lucky in that the update does not apply to my version of PC-Doctor.
Just makes me mad they did not figure this stuff out sooner. :(

Me too,
Especially that they had this patch out for system restore and then changed it after the fact.
What a pain in the ass. I wouldn't have worried about it but I think system restore is very cool tool to useMark

I guess I will have to try system restore just to make sure I have the right patch. The last one for my system is dated 08-2004. I think that is one I got, but I'm not completely sure. :(

I got news for ya that was the one I got also but then there is another one [same number] which the date is 8/30, which was 18 days later than the one I downloaded first.
I have not tried it yet because I want to wait a day for a system restore point to be created.
If you want I'll pm you after I try it.

I would appreciate it if you would let me know. :)
I think I got the latest one. I signed up for the email notification for new updates from HP after I downloaded all the updates before I installed SP2.
Let me know how it turns out.
Thanks Mark.
