I run a small network and we use a program called Real Popup (http://www.realpopup.it/) for interoffice messaging. This works great most of the time but there is a small problem on the WinXP machines. When they recieve a message, the message doesn't appear on the screen like in Win98. There is a notice/speach buble that appears out of the system tray. The problem is that this notice disapears after a little while. Real Popup tech support won't reply to me. I am wondering if this is just a WindowsXP setting? If this will not work, what can I do? Another messaging program?

Our office used to use Turbo Note (http://turbonote.com/)
before we went broadband. Now we use AIM.

I just downloaded turbo note to try it out. That would be a great program for keeping your own messages and sometimes sending them on to others but I think that there is too much to do to send a message to someone. We need a program that we can use to quickly and easily send messages to any user of the network. We could do that with Real Pop up but we have that problem that I described on the XP machines.

Do you understand what I mean with the problem that I am having? On the Win98 machines the message pops up as it should. The message doesn't "pop up". There is just that speach buble that comes out of the system tray. That same speach bubble will come up and tell me that the computer is connected to the Internet or it is connected to the LAN.

I just did a Google search on "Free Network Mesaging". Most seemed to be a trial version. Which is why we went to AOL's AIM. This allows us easy messaging not only in the office here, but through-out our other offices.

As to solving the problem with Real popup and XP, I can't help you there.

Within of 5 minutes of using that program (RealPopup) I was able to solve the problem. It's not rocket science really. :)

Environment > Options > Users and groups
Select {All Users} or {individual users} and check on "Pop up on new message"
The balloon options should be greyed out at this option.

This worked between 2 XP machines.

OK. Thanks. I had just looked in the other tabs. I didn't understand how the "users and groups" tab worked.
As you can see, to send a message to someone else on the LAN, you put their computer name in the send box, type the message in the body and then click send. I might send 25 messages/minute and so I need a quick easy way to send them. This is great.

I am just wondering if there is a way to put a default recipient in that box? Most of the messages that I send out go to w1 on the network. I would like w1 to apear in that box when I open the window to compose the message. If I need to send to w3 or w2 than I can just manually change that. I like to do anything to shave of a second and make this a little easer for me.
