OS: WinXP SP2
I attempted to backup my Outlook Express 6 message folders and somehow lost several month's worth of e-mail. First I went to Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store Folder and changed it to an OE backup folder that already existed on my desktop. (OK, that may have been my mistake.) I was then going to copy that folder to a Zip disk for backup.
Anyway, when I re-opened OE all my e-mail was from that desktop folder and several months old.
After consulting the Microsoft Web page dealing with OE, I attempted to restore the old folders by clicking on File>Import>Messages>OE6>Import from an OE6 store directory>browse. I browsed to the former location of store files and get:
"The specified message store could not be opened. It may be in use by OE."
So I copied all folders from the old backup location to a new folder on my desktop and attempted the same restore procedure. For reasons I don't understand, the folders are restored and I don't get the error message, but the messages are the same (old) ones that I accidentally restored previously.
Any suggestions?
