I just downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. My question has to do with Thunderbird. I've been using Outlook Express for my email, and I could include a signature in my outgoing email. I would like to do that with Thunderbird, but can't find where to do it. Can a signature be added with Thunderbird, and if so, how would I do it? One other thing, I just noticed that my IE Spell Check won't work with Firefox. Does any one know how I can get a spell checker for it. Beecause I reely nead it. Thanks...

Hi Frank,
You can create your own personal signature with Word, wordpad or any text editor, save it as a .txt file and then use the instructions from this page (http://www.nidelven-it.no/articles/introduction_to_thunderbird_3)
to have it attached to your mails.
Mark found this spell checker (http://exchangecode.com/spellbound/) to work well with Firefox.
Good luck.

Thanks, Mal---I'll check it out....
By the way, for you guys who are using Mozilla, how do you like it? Is it supposed to be more secure them IE?

Hey Frank,
I don't use Thunderbird but I use Firefox which I guess is almost the same as the Mozilla browser. You can't get rid of ie for a couple of reasons, updates being the most important ,and it's too intertwined with Xp. Also some sites just don't work well with Mozilla so I would recommend if they have it getting the ie view extension. When you come to a page that does not work just right click and use view in ie. I hope they have this for the mozilla browser.
Security is better as I get almost nothing anymore from spybot and ad aware.
Speed is about the same but I have found firefox more customizable [if there is such a word]. Also the link that Mal gave for the spell checker is very good.
The whole thing is a little "geeky" but fun.
You have to keep up with it though as they always seem to be upgrading.
I give Firefox a B+
Mark
Just noticed you are using firefox, so with out a doubt check out the extensions and themes. Remember Firefox is going Gold next week, so prepare to update.

Well Frank:
I use Thunderbird and I love it. It's not as easy to change fonts as I would like, but the spam blocker is great. It's so nice to see 20 new messages and only 5 end up in my inbox, the rest go to the junk folder.
I can't disagree with Mark more strongly about Firefox. B+. Hell no, it's an A+++++++++++++. Lets see could it be:
It loads pages faster than IE
NO active X
No spyware
Built in popup blocker
easy to add extensions
Built in Google search bar.
Easier to customize. Ooops, you cant customize IE
Better, not perfect, security.
I have converted ALL of my clients to Firefox. The only problem is my revenue from browser hijacks and malware is being reduced. Right now I only use IE for Windows update. It's the closest thing to a perfect browser you can get.

FYI the Mozilla folks just released Thunderbird 0.9. Faster, better than ever.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I went to the web-site and clicked on Installation/selected my OS/Download Spellbound. It seemed to have downloaded because my progress bar filled up. But I still don't see any spell checker. I right-clicked the text that I wanted to check, but saw nothing that said check spelling. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong???

What version of Firefox are you using? Did you restart Firefox after installing? Were you informed of a successful install? Is Spellbound listed in your extensions, Tools > Extensions? Were you using Firefox to download? It is a web install process and not strictly a download. Javascript must be enabled also.
Also check you have Firefox set to allow software installation, Tools > Options > Advanced > Software Update and check "Allow websites to install software."
I just installed it successfully, although I hate spellcheckers as they don't account for grammar. Example, so many people use the word your instead of you're. I prefer to proofread myself.http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/wink.gif
PS- I agree with classic. B+ is far too low a grade for Firefox.

Frank,
Look under tools, extensions, in firefox I think you have to install then restart firefox.
Mal,
Most of the time your 100% correct but most people [not so much here] don't know how to form a sentence let alone spell correctly. any help they can get will help people like me be able to read what they trying to say without cringing.

hehe Mark, true!!
I said I don't like them, not that they aren't useful for those who do.
Hehe, not to be awful, but look at your use of your instead of you're.http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Frank, I just installed it a few days ago. I was having problems as well. Nothing was happening until I noticed a yellow bar at the top of the window informing me that Firefox had blocked a website from installing a program on my computer. Had to click the options in the right hand corner to allow. I then had to refresh the page and choose install options again. Then it took maybe 15 or 20 seconds for it to begin to install. Hope that helps.
As a side note, I just installed on Firefox 1.0 without problems. :)

Mal,
I see your point [as the brick hit him in the head] but I am sure you've seen some of the postings in other forums, or even in some correspondence .
People just cannot write anymore.
So my feeling is every little bit helps.
By the way enjoy your vacation in Canada, welcome home.

Cheers Mark. Thanks. Really looking forward to seeing snow again!!
I agree with you, the web has been a real setback for language and every bit can help.
Sorry for being such a stickler.http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/frown.gifhttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks everybody--I finally got SpellBound to work! It was that little yellow bar at the top that jireich talked about. I hadn't noticed it before, but that's where the problem was. It's funny how something like that can be right in front of your nose and you still don't see it. Now I've got to be honest with you. The reason it wouldn't work the first time was because when I first tried to install it, I must have had an IRQ conflict--not in my computer but in my brain. I went to that web-site that melcore pointed out. But, the browser I had open at the time was IE and not FireFox. :o Well when I discovered my error, I then open FireFox and got to the site but didn't notice the little yellow bar. As they say, "All's well that ends well."

Well Frank:
It's so nice to see 20 new messages and only 5 end up in my inbox, the rest go to the junk folder.
I'm now using FireFox and ThunderBird and everything seems to be running smooth. I'm a little confused about the Junk/Not Junk icon that I see at the top. Sometimes the icon says, "Junk" and at other times it says, "Not Junk". Right now if I click on a legitimate e-mail message, the icon at the top reads, "Junk" if I click on a spasm message it says "Not Junk". If I click on a spam, shouldn't it say, "Junk"? What am I not understanding here?

The button is a switch. If Tbird marks an item as spam and you click on the icon it takes the spam switch off. If Tbird recognizes the item as OK, clicking the icon will mark it as spam.
Make sure you make a folder called junk
Under Tools-->Junk mail controls
Click the box that says mode incoming messages determined to be junk mail to:
and manually select the folder you call junk. Then in they go.
