I had the clips on My Cpu fan break and The Cpu appears to be done for. So i bought a new CPU but when i put it in my computer the CPU fan moves a little but nothing else happens. I put the Cpu in another machine and the New CPU works fine. Its not the Power supply be cause i tried two that both work on other machines. Is it possible when my old CPU burnt up it runned the MB too or is there something i need to reset to get it working again.

P4 2.0
256 ram
P4VMM2 motherBoard

Thanks for any help you can provide

Knowing specific parts are in working order (i.e. your PSU and CPU) it is a bit easier to isolate basic problem areas.

If you can, I would suggest also checking your RAM.

Once that is done, you could attempt a barebones boot: Video, RAM, CPU+fan, Monitor, and keyboard, and see if you can make it through POST

It would also be a good idea to do this with the motherboard outside of the case on a non-conductive surface (e.g. a piece of cardboard). This would eliminate a possible short to case scenario.

You may find that the MB is also shot.
This can easily happen when the CPU overheats.

And, after the barebones boot with known good working components...You may find that the MB is also shot.
This can easily happen when the CPU overheats...thanks ski, forgot to add that part! ;)

No problem, Whyzman.
Stuff happens.
I hate to admit how many times I've inadvertently left out a troubleshooting suggestion.
