Someone saved a monitor for me, by putting it in a roofless utility enclosure thinking I would pick it up in an hour or so. That was 10 days ago, and I just found out where it is (was). It has rained since then--sustained downpour 3 days ago. Is it a paper weight, or can I just let it dry out and use it. How long to safely dry it out ?

I would plug the power cord in and let it run for a day or so, supervised, the heat that generates should dry out the innards. At that point I would try it in an OLD pc before i put it into your everyday PC

I would suggest leaving it sitting in a warm room for about a week before trying anything with it.

After this time period plug the power cord into the mains but do not connect it to the computer this should let you know if it is going to blow up without endangering your computers. It might (though unlikely) blow a fuse so keep fuse wire handy . If it turns on Ok and takes the electical power then it will be OK to connect it to computer.
I take no responsibillty for any action you take as regards my suggestion

I think I'll take a combination of both suggestions, and let it sit for about a week, and then plug it in while I'm home and let it heat itself up and dry for another week.

Thanks, guys. . ..

Grasp it with both arms. Pour out the marinade into sink, then put on cookie sheet. Place in oven on lowest rack at 350° for one hour, longer if steam continues to rise from oven door that won't close due to size of monitor...

Well, shoot, if I'm gonna take a chance on messing up my electric range, then I may as well break it in half and put it in the micro-wave  :D
