Hi,

i have an old PII pc with win2000 pro and since a couple of days, sometimes it freezes, and i can't do anything but push the reset button, and when it tries to restart the monitor stay off and the computer makes no beep and the hd light stay on. The only thing i can do is to unplug and replug the video card several times and it finally restart, but it happens randomly a couple of times a day. Anyone have a suggestions to make it run correctly all the time ?

Thanks
Francois

The first thing that come to my mind is heat. Is heat sink connection ok, check that area first see if that is the source of your problem

i don't think that is heat, the CPU fan and PSU fan are clean and run smoothly

Any other idea ?

Thanks

Clean off the vid card's contacts and maybe even inside the mobo slot. That will help so you don't have to reseat the vid card every time.

Sometimes the heat compound used between heat sink and the CPU gets old and does not work properly. To completely rule out the heat problem yu might want to change the heat compound. When your computer freezes, restart and see if it works. If not, wait for say an hour and try again. If it works then you have heat problem else you had ruled out the heat issue.
