Is there a way to do a repair installation (in-place installation) of Windows Me? I've heard of it, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. That way I can re-install Windows Me without losing all of the applications, or documents.

Thanks!

An in place upgrade or dirty installation is done by running setup and ensuring you install into the same windows directory that you are currently using. Your documents should be OK but not all applications will run after such an upgrade without being first reinstalled.

If i understand u correctly u mean something like the scanreg command.
For putting an old registry backup in place to get windows running again in case of troubles.
Just google on "scanreg" or smth.
Hope this helps.

delete, I think what he wants to do is reinstall Win ME to repair corrupt or missing system files.

All that you need to do is boot Win ME and insert your Win ME CD-ROM, it should produce a window with three choices Browse This CD, Interactive CD Sampler, and Documentation.

Choose Browse This CD, a windows explorer window should come up with the contents of the CD d-click on setup.exe in the root directory. Windows setup will check your C: drive and find Win ME installed and give an error stating that setup can not continue because it has detected that versions of certain installation files are already being used by... choose OK and your PC will reboot and windows setup will start running before Win ME is loaded. Continue with Win ME setup choosing to install to C:/windows
Be sure to have your CD key handy

After you are finished with the repair install you will need to go to Windows Update and re-download all of the updates!!!

Be advised a repair install will not fix registry errors, incorrect user settings, or errors in programs or files that are not part of Windows.

Also be advised a repair install can result in data loss so backup all files that can't be replaced to another partition or removeble media.
