Hi there everyone.
:)

I have a little problem here:

XP Pro is eating up my external HDD space.
Currently, there are no files on the HDD, but when you look at the disk properties, there is 1.1GB of space used by SOMETHING...

This chunk of my USB HDD that I cannot claim back, is getting bigger everytime I use the drive.

The drive is a Toshiba 2.5" HDD in a little aluminium case.
The drive is 40GB in capacity.
USB-2 speed.
Brand new(purchased in September 2004)

I have checked in VIEW/FILE TYPES, and told XP not to hide any known filetypes, system files or extensions of a known type.
I have gone into DISK CLEANUP, and told XP to delete any old restore points, recycle-bin files, cache files and temp Internet files.
I have also disabled indexing on this drive, in an attempt to claim the space back.

After all this, I still cannot get back this 1GB.

I refuse to believe that the NTFS needs 1.1GB of space to keep track of a 40GB drive, and it's files.

Can anyone here suggest something else for me to try?

MM.
