Help! replacing a missing file.

Please help,
OS-win xp pro.
after installing a trial software to optimise the pc i am not able to start the computer.
error message-- windows\system32\config\system file is missing,install by repair option from win xp cd.
I have never done repair on win xp, so if some one could explain how it is done I will be extremely grateful.

I would try a system restore (http://www.google.com/search?hl=xx-bork&q=xp+system+restore) first, but here (http://www.google.com/search?hl=xx-bork&q=xp+repair+installation) is more repair installation info than you can shake a stick at.

I don't guess you can do a system restore if you can't boot... :rolleyes:
