I can't remember the last time I had a power outage here. (Not that they don't happen often, just can't remember).

Anyway, it's a pretty nice day, no wind, no rain......just Flashed a Bios from a 1997 to a 2003 version.

AND RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ACTUAL UPDATE???
You guessed it....the lights flashed on and off two or three times, the UPS kicked in and out with an audible warning, but the Bios Update never skipped a beat.

Unbelievable!

After my heart stopped pounding long enough to load optimal settings and then "tweak" things a bit....success!

This means the Friend I was doing this for is still in fact a friend. :D

No need to reply, but what are the chances?
I'm afraid if I go outside, I'll be struck by a bolt of lightning.

Then again, maybe I should buy a lottery ticket. :p

Hahaha! That's a good idea!

Just goes to show you how valuable those things are! Surge protection is nice, and you should still use one, but a UPS is a god-send for doing exactly the kind of delicate work you were doing. If you hadn't been using that Belkin UPS, that computer you were updating would be useless. Losing power during a BIOS update is a sure-fire way to make a big paperweight!

The other thing to keep in mind is to test your UPS every 3 months or so! I can't stress that point enough, either. I know a few local businesses that had a problem after a recent power outtage (power box by a gas station blew up - I heard it was a sight to see!) took their in-house servers away. Problem? Their UPS units were old and didn't work! Small wonder after sitting there for 2-3 years without use! In a home setting, a simple fuse box test will sort out good UPS units from bad ones, so why not test them out?
