When shutting down my PC using windows XP with service pack 2, it always shows "Your PC is shutting down" but I never see the screen "it is safe to turn off your computer now " sign

How can I get over this problem please?

Thanks

I think he might be referring to the AT power supply at which point the, "It is safe to turn off your computer now." message shows. Then it would be safe to press the power button to turn off the computer.

Presuming you (derekpayne) have an ATX power supply, it will bypass that message and automatically shut down.

Have discovered that under XP its more likely to be due to ACPI than the actual power supply; see http://www.theeldergeek.com/shutdown_issues_in_xp.htm
