Today I upgraded AVG6 free version to AVG7 free version on Toshiba laptop with win98se.
Then I had shutdown problems, so via msconfig I looked at startup items. Ended up unchecking "AVG7_AMSVR" which corrected the shutdown problem. avgcc and avgemc are still checked in startup.

Do any of you AVG users know what AVG7_AMSVR does? Will the anti-virus program work okay with it unchecked in startup?

I've sent question to AVG7 Users Forum but no response so far.

Thanks.

That file may enable the AV program to run in the background and automatically check for viruses, which chews up CPU bandwidth, resources, and slows down overall performance.

You may want to consider leaving it unchecked in startup, and manually check for viruses every day or two.

If that's not desireable, then click the Advanced button in msconfig, and check the box for 'Disable Fast Shutdown', and see if that works.
