You want to make sure that if you're using ATA-66 or ATA-100 drivers that you're using an 80 connector cable, not a standard 40 connector cable. Also you'd want to verfify you have compatible drivers for the disk controller if this was an upgrade to XP. And last, make sure the drive cabling is configured correctly.

Try booting with the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows
If for some reason that don't work for you, you can boot to the recovery console like above and...
Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
This will probably take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

Probably the cause of the problem is a corrupt boot.ini file.
You can boot to the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows

Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
This will take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.
If this doesn't work we can try a few other things but I think this should work.

I have a bunch of windows error links saved in my "favorites" file and organized by OS version. Take's me right to the fix. :)
