any ideas?
Thanks

The "windows is now shutting down" is ok, your system will/should power down, after you get this message does your system shut/power down ok ?
are you having other problems ?

Probably one or more programs [running unseen in the background] is/are "Not Responding" and the Operating System is unable to close it/them down, and therefore never reaches the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" stage of the shut-down process.
Before you try to shut down use "Ctrl+Alt+Del" to see if any programs are "Not Responding", and "End Task" any found.
Investigate why these are "Not Responding" and try to eliminate the cause.
