I'm Running XP, and PC worked fine until all hell broke loose. I (foolishly) tried upgrading to SP2 !

After weeks of messing, (now back with SP1) Everything is fine but for Media Player, which wont burn CDs. Changed from ver 9 to 10, but no use.
Nero6 and Real Player still burn ok.

When I click on "burn" I get C00D11CD Unknown error.....Thanks a bunch Microsoft!
It also says "no CD or DVD burner has been detected" below the tabs.

In WMP when I go to tools >options>devices>properties there isnt a burn tab, and i think there should be.

Anyone any clues....I'd be pulling my hair out if I had any left!!

Hi Jordi...Welcome to the forums by the way. ;)

First of all: I'm Running XP, and PC worked fine until all hell broke loose. I (foolishly) tried upgrading to SP2 !
I've installed SP2 on Five computers to date all running XP and all went flawlessly. I've yet to have any significant problem related to SP2.

I think you need to resolve that issue first.
SP2 is not only one of M$'s best updates ever, but one I believe will be essential to have for the ability to install future service packs....(if there are any).
And while far from perfect, SP2 makes the OS a whole lot more secure then it is without it.

Bottom line, get SP2 installed somehow. Adware, and Spyware among other things (like viruses), seem to be causing people the most problems when attempting to upgrade to SP2.

After you've achieved that, I would re-install WMP 10....you should be able to burn with it.
I also have WMP10 and as you mentioned, under "tools >options>devices>properties " there should be a "Playback" and "Rip" option for your Burner.

The big thing here is to get SP2 installed IMHO and then tackle the other.

When you say "All Hell broke loose", what exactly do you mean?
The "Hell that broke loose" may have also "broke your Media Player" in the process.

Thanx guys..
still going Thro' Google Don.

Jabarnutcase...Will try again with SP2 but need some breathing space. My box is working which is a relief.
Am running Adware6, Spybot, Spywareblaster & McAfee products, but when I downloaded SP2, the pc just continually tried rebooting!
When I did finally get Windows up, McAfee went mental. It was finding Trojans, Worms, viruses all over the place. The last external connection being Microsoft!!!

Jordi,
Just a side note:
Adaware6 is obsolete and no longer supported, you want to be running AdawareSE (Personal), build 1.05 now. It is more powerful than the AAW6 ever was and works on a surprising array of new problems.
