OK here's the deal. I built a computer with an ABIT NF7 Mobo and installed windows XP pro. During the install it gave me an error saying it could not install movie maker. I did not really care since I don't use it anyway. But here is my problem. My device manger says the USBs are there and working fine. But when I plug something in nothing happens at all. When I try to install my USB2 drivers from the manufactor CD it says to update to XP SP1. Well when I run windows update it gives me SP2. Now SP2 will not install cause it says it is missing movie maker. So I download movie maker from download.com, BUT it says movie maker is already installed. I am at a lose here any help would be great. Thanks

MS's Movie Maker is something I've never used, but nevertheless it's an integral part of the OS installation. So, try doing a repair install using your WinXP CD. What probably happened is MM tried to install but failed, so Windows thinks it worked (and thus it won't install again).

But when I plug something in nothing happens at all.Generally speaking USB2 devices should function on USB1.1 hardware and software but only work at the lower speed provided by USB1.1. Having had an installation with errors one can't be sure whether this is related or not.

Are you getting no response from both the back and front panel connectors?

Probably the best way of installing a service pack (sp1 or sp2) is by burning a CD containing the original installation files and the service pack. Such a slipstreamed CD can then by used to install both of them 'in one go' and would be a pretty good idea as an original installation on your system.

If the installation was bad because files were missed during the installation one has to query the integrity of the CD or that your hardware was not installed correctly (notably the front panel connectors, which can do harm to the mobo if connected wrongly). One can often determine whether the original files are bad/inaccessible by simply copying the i386 folder from the CD to the HDD; if the files are really bad the copying process will fail at that point. If they get transferred to the CD you can then run the installation from the HDD using winnt.exe accessed from A WIN9X boot floppy.

Have you tried opening MM from its position under Start -- All Programs -- Accessories or does the icon there not even exist?
