I have a co-worker who closed her aol account to use cheaper People pc, when she changed over she was having display problems, now she can't gain access thru her modem, she had access before thru internal modem now after she has switched no connection, in between all of the problems trying to get her monitor to display 800x600 i ended up reformatting hard drive and reinstallinf windows 98 se, I am going to try opening her case and see what kind of modem she has and getting driver for it, Is there snhting else I need to check, thanks for your help once again

Wow. What a drastic solution. I would have hoped you would have gathered all of the info from device manager before you nuked her computer.
Hopefully Windows will detect the modem and then you can get the drivers. If not, you can look at the information on the modem there is an FCC ID number and we can search for that. Your friend should have all of the documentation that came with the PC and the modem driver should also be there.
Seems like the video driver was corrupted and a simple re-install might have worked. It's nice to know you would be willing to use an A-Bomb when a hammer would work fine....

yeah, it would seem drastic if I hadn't tried all of that before I reformatted, I uninstalled and reinstalled video driver, didn't work. After getting the display to work I downloaded drivers for modem with no luck, I then switched out modem with one that I had in a box laying around. I got her up and running, thanks for the help

Did you go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers? If not, there are sometimes ghost drivers that are there in safe mode, but not in real mode.
