I recently just got a used computer from a guy. It is: Celeron 400mhz, 56MB ram, 3GB HD, on board video and sound. I think it had a different sound card in it before, but it is now using on board sound, on the motherboard. What the problem is though, is that there is hardly any volume at all. I have all the volume settings set to the max, and you can barely hear any sound coming out of the speaker, I plug headphones into the speaker output also, and it's still not very loud. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be great.

Start in Safe mode, remove all audio cards and adapters from Device Manager, restart, let Windows recognize the onboard adapter, and reinstall its drivers.

If no luck, then install a cheap sound card.

ok. I'll try that next time I'm on it.

Try your headphones or speakers off the front jack on your cd-rom if it has one. If they work there, it's on the mobo and 'Ski' is on the right 'slope'. :D
